Ratna Gupta is an avid collector. She collects ephemeral traces of existence to permanent remnants and memories binding all together into a string of intermingling thoughts. She opens a dialogue about the relevance of objects in the human psyche and how contextually objects may lose relevance over time. It is the rationale of our meaning making that makes objects valuable. Our mental collections are correlated to our physical ones, and thus are very subjective. Ratna’s works intervene in this subjectivity, objectifying and questioning how personal these really are.

Her work amidst the coins is such an interesting aporia! Nothing expresses the ephemeral nature of human meaning-making like money. It is the largest fiction we have created practically governing our reality. The coins here are money which held value in their times but aren’t currency anymore. Demonetization exhibited how loss in belief can lead to loss in meaning of an object although its physical existence continues. The coins here holding a notional value for only the artistic and esoteric minds aren’t any different than Ratna’s discs with elements lost in time, intrinsically embedded, and suspended in air.

रत्ना गुप्ता एक अधीर और उत्साही संग्रहकर्ता हैं। वे कला के रूप में अस्थाई अस्तित्व के सूक्ष्म चिह्नों से शाश्वत अवशेषों और स्मृतियों तक का संग्रह करती हैं, जो पारस्परिक विचार शृंखला की एक डोरी में गूथे होते हैं। रत्ना मानव मानस में वस्तुओं की प्रासंगिकता के विषय में एक संवाद का प्रारम्भ करती हैं और इस बात पर भी ध्यान केन्द्रित करती हैं कि किस तरह वस्तुएं समय के साथ अपनी महत्ता और प्रासंगिकता खो सकती हैं।

वस्तुओं का महत्व हमारे अर्थ निर्माण की तर्कसंगतता से उत्पन्न होता है। हम जिस तरीके से अपना मानसिक संग्रह नियोजित करते हैं वह रीति हमारे शारीरिक संग्रह से भी सहसम्बंधित होती है और इसलिए बहुत ही व्यक्तिगत होती है। इस विषय में हम पाते हैं कि वस्तुओं को वस्तुवत बनाते हुए, उन पर प्रश्न उठाते हुए रत्ना के कार्य इस आत्म चेतना में हस्तक्षेप करते हैं, कि ये वास्तव में कितने व्यक्तिगत होते हैं।

रत्ना की कलाक्रुती सिक्कोंके संग्रह मे होना एक रोचक असमंजस है। मानव अर्थ-निर्माण के अल्पकालिक स्वभाव और भाव-बोध को कुछ भी उस तरह से व्यक्त नहीं कर सकता जैसा धन करता है। यह हमारी ही निर्मित की गई सबसे बड़ी कल्पना है जो वास्तविकता को नियंत्रित करती है। यहाँ सिक्के ऐसी संपदा का प्रतिनिधित्व करते है जो अपने समय में एक मोल रखती थी लेकिन अब यह मुद्रा नहीं हैं। जैसा कि हम यह देख पाते हैं नोटबंदी के समय ने हमें दिखाया कि विश्वास का खो जाना एक वस्तु के अर्थ की हानि में बदल सकता है, भले ही उसकी दैहिक मौजूदगी जारी रहती आ रही हो। यहाँ सिक्के, सिर्फ उन्हीं कलात्मक और गूढ़ ज्ञान के इच्छुक लोगों के लिए एक काल्पनिक मूल्य रखते हैं जो रत्ना के उन चक्रीय तत्त्वों से भिन्न नहीं हैं जो समय में खो गए हैं,एक अनिवार्य अंतर्निहितता में समाहित, हवा में झूल रहे है।
